About this map

The Blue Ridge crest forms the northern boundary of this 1950s terrain, where the high mountain gap of Blowing Rock overlooks the headwaters of the Yadkin River and the Johns River. Much of the landscape is protected within the Pisgah National Forest and the Daniel Boone Wildlife Management Area, showing a region defined by steep ridges and deep hollows like Walker Hollow Ridge and Buckeye Hollow. Small mountain settlements and farmsteads are concentrated along the valley floors, particularly around the community of Globe and the Johns River Camp.
