2021 Map of Goshute Lake South

About this map

Steptoe Valley dominates this arid landscape at the boundary of Elko and White Pine counties. The northern portion of the quadrangle is defined by the ephemeral waters of Goshute Lake, which transitions into extensive wetlands and salt flats. The presence of Collar and Elbow Spring on the eastern edge of the valley floor highlights the critical role of isolated water sources in this Great Basin environment. In the south, the terrain rises toward the Schell Creek Range, where the drainage of Water Canyon meets the valley floor near the intermittent flow of Duck Cr. Small landmarks like Greens reflect the sparse but persistent human footprint in a region defined by township and range lines and large-scale topographic transitions.
