Gunter sits on the western edge of this landscape, where the headwaters of the East Fork Trinity River and several of its tributaries begin to carve the North Texas prairie. The 2010 environment is defined by a sophisticated system of water management, evidenced by the numerous Soil Conservation Service dams such as Site 35a Dam and Site 27 Dam scattered across the drainages of Squirrel Creek and Honey Creek.
