Big Spring and the drainage of Lake Cr define this section of the High Plains in western Kansas. The landscape is deeply incised by a series of draws and canyons, including Blindman Canyon, Kolacny Canyon, and Wildcat Canyon, which channel intermittent water toward the larger creek systems. These natural features provided critical landmarks and water sources for early cattle ranching and settlement in the region.
