Colville River and the Ublutuoch River dominate this segment of the Arctic coastal plain within the North Slope Borough. This landscape is defined by the braided channels and wide gravel bars of the Colville, which cuts a significant path along the eastern portion of the survey. The surrounding terrain is a complex network of thermokarst lakes and tundra wetlands, characteristic of the region north of the Brooks Range. Public land survey markers for t9n r1e, t9n r2e, t8n r1e, and t8n r2e provide the primary geographic framework for this largely uninhabited area, where the hydrologic patterns of the river systems are the defining physical features.
