Hastings Peak and the surrounding high desert of Wasco County are captured in this provisional survey, which reflects the landscape as it was field-checked in the mid-1980s. The region is defined by a network of drainage canyons and prominent volcanic features, such as Maupin Butte and the distinctive Chinaman Hat. Human presence is sparse, centered primarily on livestock operations like Sorefoot Ranch and Middle Camp, which are situated along the ephemeral water sources of Sorefoot Creek and Corral Canyon.
