Targhee National Forest dominates this volcanic landscape, where the massive geological signatures of the Henry's Fork Caldera and Island Park Caldera intersect. The topography is defined by prominent volcanic features including Hatchery Butte, Ripley Butte, and Eccles Butte. Human activity is concentrated along the corridor of the Worm River, where the small settlements of Eccles and Pineview are situated. A network of primitive roads and spurs, such as S Hatchery Butte Rd and Eccles Rd, provide access to the timbered heights and marshy lows near Lily Pond. Of particular interest to historical researchers is the Railroad Right-Of-Way Trl, which follows the river's path, marking the route of former transportation infrastructure through these high-altitude flats and draws.
