Hawks serves as the primary settlement hub in this Presque Isle County interior, where the North Eastern State Trl cuts a straight path through the landscape. This corridor, following an old rail alignment, passes the small community of Big Cut to the northwest. The terrain is defined by a dense concentration of glacial lakes, including Lake Nettie, Lake Louise, and Lake May, which create a complex network of wetlands and seasonal drainages.
