The High Plains of Northwest Nebraska are defined here by the headwaters of Hay Springs Cr and Little Bordeaux Cr, which carve through the high tableland south of the Pine Ridge. This 2021 landscape is characterized by a sparse, organized grid of rural ranch roads, including Table Rd and Antelope Rd, that reflect the persistent geometry of the Public Land Survey System. The boundary between Dawes and Sheridan counties runs vertically through the eastern portion of the sheet, where the Cowboy Trl—a long-distance recreational path following a former rail corridor—traverses the terrain. In the southern reaches, the Anderson Reservoir provides a critical water source in this semi-arid region, while family-named routes like Krotz Rd and Carlson Rd lead to remote homesteads and agricultural operations.
