1892 Map of Henry Mountains

About this map

The Henry Mountains rise as a dominant cluster of peaks in this reconnaissance of southeastern Utah, a landscape defined by the confluence of the Colorado River and the San Juan River. Topography by the Powell and U.S. Geological surveys illustrates the intricate drainage systems of Trachyte Creek and Crescent Creek alongside the massive geologic uplift of the Water Pocket Fold. At the southern edge, the Indian Res Line and the high summit of Navajo Mt mark the boundary near the Utah Arizona Boundary Line. This early edition details a remote region before modern inundation, recording the natural pathways through Pa-Ute Canyon and the orientation of Monument Valley within San Juan and Garfield counties. Prominent peaks including Mt Pennell, Mt Hillers, and Mt Holmes serve as anchor points for this expansive survey of the high desert plateau.
