Hereford occupies the western edge of this High Plains landscape, where the city grid gives way to the vast agricultural stretches of Deaf Smith County. The terrain is defined by the winding course of Tierra Blanca Creek and Frio Draw, which cut through the level plateau to create distinct topographical relief southeast of the city center. This 2016 survey illustrates the intersection of regional transit and local infrastructure, anchored by the Hereford Municipal Airport and the settlement of Joel along the diagonal path of Route 60. A network of county roads, including Co RD 9 and Co RD Ee, divides the land into large-scale parcels typical of Panhandle ranching and farming operations. Near the northern boundary, the presence of Leroy Johnson Lake provides a localized water feature amidst the drainage patterns of the draws.
