The border between Dewey Co and Ziebach Co bisects this high plains landscape, where intermittent drainage patterns and seasonal wetlands define the terrain. In the late 2010s, this area remains a sparse network of county roads, including Co Hwy 23 and Co Rd 38, which serve the expansive ranchlands of the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. The southern portion of the quadrangle is deeply etched by the branching headwaters of Dupree Cr and Rudy Cr, creating a complex system of draws and ridges that stand in contrast to the flatter northern sections. To the northwest, Little Bear Cr drains toward the larger river basins. This map illustrates the intersection of Public Land Survey System boundaries and the natural topography of the Missouri Plateau, showing how rural infrastructure follows the section lines of t12n r22e and t11n r22e.
