Salmon River and Roaring River define this portion of the Clackamas County wilderness, where a series of dramatic cascades including Frustration Falls, Vanishing Falls, and Little Niagara Falls drop through the drainage basins. The landscape is marked by high elevation points such as Salmon Butte, Hambone Butte, and the prominent High Rock lookout area. This 2011 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Forest Service captures the modern infrastructure of the Mount Hood National Forest area, including the Hambone Springs Campground and the Frazier Fork Campground. Road access is limited to thoroughfares like Abbott Rd and Indian Ridge Rd, which provide passage to the alpine lakes of the Rock Lakes Basin, including Upper Rock Lake and Lower Rock Lake.
