Rowland Mtn rises above a high-desert landscape defined by seasonal drainages and vital water sources in this remote section of Washoe County. This area, straddling the California-Nevada border, features the distinct geological depression of Hole in the Ground, which shares its name with the nearby Hole in the Ground Spring. The terrain transitions from high ridges down to expansive, level areas like Big Adobe Flat and Little Adobe Flat.
