Flathead National Forest covers this high-altitude landscape in the northern Rockies, dominated by a series of prominent summits including Horseshoe Peak and Hematite Peak. The terrain is defined by its dramatic verticality, with drainage basins feeding a network of alpine waters such as Castle Lake and Flotilla Lake. These high basins give rise to numerous named tributaries like Grouse Cr and Bradley Cr, which carve through the steep divides between Trinity Mtn and Twin Mtn.
