The northwest expansion of the City of Houston is captured in detail during a period of significant early 20th-century growth. Concentrated development is visible in early neighborhoods such as Cottage Grove, Sunset Heights, and the newly established Independence Heights. Transportation networks are dominated by the Missouri Kansas and Texas railroad, which converges at Eureka Junction. Outside the primary settlements, education was supported by small community institutions like the Rosslyn School, Durkee School, Wohl School, and Genowski School, serving more remote locales like Rosslyn and Little York.
