The National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska dominates this high-latitude landscape, where the Colville River and Kiligwa River wind through the northern territory. The drainage patterns of the North Slope are clearly defined by numerous waterways including Grayling Cr and Liberator Creek, the latter of which feeds into Liberator Lake. A single Tractor Trail provides a rare point of overland passage across the tundra near the river confluence.
