About this map

Garzas Creek and Quinto Creek emerge from the steep eastern slopes of the Diablo Range, flowing toward a landscape defined by large-scale water engineering. The mid-20th century saw a dramatic transformation of this Merced County terrain, as the Delta - Mendota Canal and the California Aqueduct were cut through the valley floor to support regional agriculture. These massive arteries run parallel through the center of the sheet, crossing under siphons and near a network of windmills and water tanks.
