Hungry Mountain and the surrounding high country of Okanogan County are defined by a complex network of canyons and drainage systems that feed toward the Methow Valley. The landscape is etched by the various forks of Gold Creek, including the Middle Fork and South Fork, which carve through prominent landforms like South Fork Ridge and Middle Fork Ridge. Human presence is marked by primitive outposts and recreational sites such as Bear Camp and the Crater Creek Campground.
