The White River winds through the northern half of this landscape, forming a natural boundary that defines the drainage patterns of south-central South Dakota. Along its banks lies Gunny Sack Bottom, a notable alluvial feature in a region dominated by the dissected uplands of the Great Plains. These plains are carved by several seasonal drainages, including Mill Iron Cr in the northwest and the winding course of Dog Ear Cr which cuts through the southern sections.
