Lake Koocanusa dominates this portion of Lincoln County, Montana, filling the valley floor within the Kootenai National Forest. This expansive reservoir is flanked by the steep slopes of the Purcell Mountains to the west and the Cabinet Mountains' northern reaches to the east. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, rising from the water’s edge at Rocky Gorge to high summits like Inch Mtn and Parsnip Mountain. A network of drainage systems, including McGuire Creek and the various forks of Parsnip Creek, carve through the landscape into the lake. The lack of modern residential development highlights the area's character as a managed timber and recreation landscape, where geographic landmarks such as the High Divide and Warex Peak serve as the primary navigational anchors for the backcountry.
