The town of Index sits at the confluence of the North Fork Skykomish River and the South Fork Skykomish River, serving as a gateway to the high alpine terrain of the Snoqualmie National Forest. This 2020 survey illustrates the proximity of the settlement to the North Fork Skykomish River Bridge and the Reiter-Skykomish Rearing Ponds to the west. The landscape is defined by massive peaks including Mt Index, Mt Persis, and Philadelphia Mtn, which tower over the river valleys below.
