The West Texas landscape at the boundary of Dawson and Borden counties is defined by a network of drainage systems cutting through the plains. The central topographical feature, Indian Canyon, meanders through the center of the sheet, complemented by the similarly carved terrain of Buck Canyon and the T J F Draw to the west. These natural depressions provide the primary relief in an area otherwise characterized by agricultural and ranching tracts.

Settlement is sparse, centered primarily around the community of Mesquite in the northeast corner near the intersection of FM 1054 and several county roads. Waterways like Tobacco Creek and Wet Tobacco Creek underscore the importance of seasonal drainage in this semi-arid region. A grid of rural routes, including Co RD 133 and Co RD 125, connects isolated homesteads and ranching operations across the high plains environment.
