Stagecoach Waterhole and numerous canyon-bottom drainage systems characterize this 1974 survey of Edwards County. The landscape is defined by the high relief of Indian Mountain and Black Mountain, where a network of primitive JEEP TRAILs provides the only access into the limestone-carved terrain. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the West Nueces River channel winds past Cave Creek and Dry Creek, revealing the intricate hydrology of the Edwards Plateau. The presence of a remote Landing Strip and various livestock Tanks suggests the ranching economy of the mid-1970s. For the local historian or researcher, the map preserves the exact locations of ephemeral water sources like Cherry Spring and the steep escarpments along Bluff Creek before modern land use altered these backcountry routes.
