Indian Valley and the surrounding high-desert terrain of northwestern Colorado are defined here by an intricate network of drainage systems and ridge lines. The landscape is carved by numerous namesake features such as Tschuddi Gulch, which branches into its East, West, and Middle forks, and the prominent Horse Ridge. Water management and natural flow are indicated by Deep Channel Cr and Twin Wash, suggesting the seasonal nature of the water sources in this arid environment. The naming of Oil Well Gulch points to the region's historical and ongoing association with energy resource exploration, while Colorow Mtn serves as a significant topographical landmark. A handful of county routes, including Co RD 77 and Co RD 143, provide the only modern access through these remote stretches of Rio Blanco and Moffat counties, following the natural contours of the draws and gulches.
