Ione sits along the western bank of the Pend Oreille River, serving as a primary point of settlement in this northern Washington landscape. The community's industrial roots and local infrastructure are evidenced by the Ione Millpond and the Ione Municipal Airport south of town. Further downstream, the smaller settlement of Tiger marks a junction near the Tiger Slough and Tiger Meadows, surrounded by the expansive reaches of the Colville National Forest.
