Cimarron River winds through the southern reaches of this landscape on the border of Kansas and Oklahoma, carving a distinct valley through the high plains. The area is defined by the broad upland known as Irish Flats and the neighboring Odee region, where the terrain is marked by a network of drainage features including Shorts Creek and the curiously named Skunkie Arroyo.
