Cliff Dwellings tucked into the steep canyons of the Tonto National Forest and Crook National Forest anchor this 1949 study of the Pinal and Maricopa County borderlands. The landscape is defined by its isolation and the presence of scattered cattle operations and early settlements, such as the Reevis Ranch and the J F Ranch. The presence of Rogers Troughs (Old Mill) and the Reevis Grave suggest a hardscrabble history of ranching and early industry in a terrain dominated by Iron Mountain and Montana Mtn.
