The Alapaha River corridor and its surrounding wetlands define this portion of Irwin and Turner counties. This landscape is characterized by an extensive network of ponds, lakes, and marshes, ranging from the singular Crystal Lake near the Crystal Lake Airpark to the clustered Boykin Ponds and the aptly named The Bay. The area's social history is recorded in its numerous small burial grounds and rural intersections, including Lands Crossroads and the settlement of Irwinville.
