Lassen National Forest covers the majority of this landscape in eastern Shasta County, characterized by a complex network of volcanic buttes, gulches, and high-elevation meadows. The prominent ridge of Jacks Backbone divides the central terrain, while significant peaks like Dan Hunt Mtn and McMullen Mtn define the surrounding horizon. Water resources are plentiful throughout the area, from the larger flow of Burney Cr to high-altitude pockets like Backbone Lake and Huckleberry Lake.
