The settlement of Jack Creek marks the northern edge of this high-altitude landscape where the Independence Mountains rise to the prominent Jacks Peak. Much of the terrain is protected within the Humboldt National Forest, defined by a network of drainage basins including Marsh Cr, Harrington Cr, and Bull Cr. These waterways carve through the high country, creating significant topographic features like Jerritt Canyon and Cow Canyon in the southern reaches of the quadrangle.
