The low-lying wetlands of the White River basin dominate this landscape along the border of White and Prairie Counties. Bayou Des Arc and its associated backwaters, including Lake Des Arc and Coitier Basin, create a complex hydrologic network in the southern portion of the quadrangle. This area is characterized by numerous "brakes" or swampy depressions, such as Eagle Brake, Watkins Brake, and Rayburn Brake, which are indicative of the region's alluvial history and periodic flooding.
