The Arikaree River winds through the northern portion of this Yuma County landscape, defining the primary relief in an otherwise strictly organized agricultural grid. The small settlement of Joes sits at a crossroads in the southern half of the quadrangle, serving as a focal point for the surrounding rural community. Evidence of the area's social and religious history is anchored by the Joes Mennonite Church Cem located just east of the main town site. This 2016 survey illustrates a high plains environment dominated by large-scale section divisions, such as T4s R47w, where a massive network of county roads including Co RD 6 and Co RD K provides the infrastructure for remote ranching and farming operations.
