Log Mountains and the ridges of Pine Mountain dominate this corner of the Cumberland Plateau, where the boundary between Knox and Bell counties follows the high ground. The landscape is defined by its narrow hollows and numerous small cemeteries that serve the scattered mountain communities. In the north, Kayjay sits at the head of Brush Creek, while further south, the settlement of Chenoa is established near Bens Fork.

Transport through the steep terrain relies on gaps and winding trails, such as Horseshoe Gap and the Davisburg TRL. Significant genealogical interest is found in the high density of family-named burial grounds including Old Carroll Cem, Partin Cem, and Head Cem. The mapping shows a distinct pattern of development concentrated in the valleys, with ridges like Moseley Spur and Cole Spur remaining largely defined by their natural contours and drainage through branches like Hignite Creek.
