About this map

Wildcat Creek and its many tributaries, including Kitten Creek and Honey Creek, define the rolling topography of this mid-century landscape west of Manhattan. The Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railroad cuts a diagonal path through the northern half, serving the community of Keats. Significant portions of the southern terrain are occupied by the Fort Riley Military Reservation, while the southeast corner transitions into the fertile Ashland Bottoms near the Kansas River. This map reveals the institutional character of the area through features like the Rebekah IOOF Home, which includes its own Rebekah IOOF Home Cem, and the agricultural research facilities of the Ashland Agronomy Farm and the Kansas State Horticulture Farm. Later revisions highlighted in purple show the expansion of the Manhattan Airport and urban growth near Eureka Valley.
