Tustumena Lake dominates the northern half of this mid-century survey, a sprawling water body defining the wilderness character of the western Kenai Peninsula. Within the protected boundaries of the Kenai National Moose Range, the landscape is a dense network of water systems, including the complex drainage of Nikolai Creek and the meandering path of Crooked Creek.

Evidence of early human presence in this roadless territory is limited to isolated Cabin and Cabins structures along the shores of Nikolai Bay and Bear Creek. The survey identifies numerous smaller alpine and lowland lakes such as North Kolomin Lake, Kolomin Lake, and Trophy Lake. The Seward Base Line bisects the terrain, providing a critical surveying benchmark for the early mapping of this interior wilderness before the development of modern infrastructure.
