Inyo National Forest dominates this high-altitude landscape in the southern Sierra Nevada, where the complex drainage system of the S Fork Kern River and Golden Trout Cr has carved a terrain of dramatic peaks and expansive meadows. The prominence of Kern Peak and the Toowa Range anchors the eastern side of the map, while numerous stringers—narrow glacial valleys or meadows—such as Monache Stringer and Left Stringer trace the runoff paths toward the lower basins.
