Clarence Strait and the Gulf of Alaska dominate this coastal section of Southeast Alaska, where the maritime boundary separates the Ketchikan Gateway Borough from the Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area. The landscape is defined by the steep, forested slopes of Prince of Wales Island and the mainland, much of which is protected within the Tongass National Forest. Inland water management is represented by Saxman Reservoir, situated near the rugged coastline. This 2017 survey illustrates the complex geography of the Alexander Archipelago, showing the intersection of federal forest lands and critical coastal waterways used for navigation and resource management.
