Behm Canal defines the western coastline of this coastal wilderness within the Tongass National Forest. The landscape is dominated by the tidal reach of the Chickamin River, which flows into the canal from the northeast, carving a broad valley through the mountainous terrain. Away from the saltwater, several freshwater bodies like Heart Lake and Gilbert Lake occupy high-elevation basins. Navigation along the shore is marked by prominent landforms such as Fish Point and Trap Point, which serve as key maritime references in this remote portion of Southeast Alaska. Several small drainages, including Humpy Cr and Choca Cr, feed the river system, reflecting a complex network of coastal hydrology where steep peaks meet the Pacific inlet.
