The Red River carves a winding path through this borderland region, defining the boundary between Oklahoma and Texas. Near the confluence where the Kiamichi River joins the main channel, the landscape is a complex network of wetlands and seasonal water bodies, including Mud Lake, Wright Lake, and the evocative Salt Well Slough. The small settlements of Kiomatia and Davenport sit amidst this bottomland environment, connected by a web of rural routes like FM 410 and Watermill Rd. To the north, the terrain rises toward Pilot Knob, while several tributaries such as Doaksville Creek and Gates Creek drain into the river system. This 2016 survey illustrates the persistent agricultural and riparian character of the Red River Valley, where modern county roads follow the natural contours of the floodplains and low-lying ridges.
