Kooskia occupies the confluence where the South Fork Clearwater River and the Middle Fork Clearwater River meet, serving as a hub for the surrounding ridges and canyons. The settlement is flanked by Mt Stewart and Battle Ridge, with much of the eastern terrain falling within the Clearwater National Forest. Local history is anchored by several burial sites, including Miller Cem, Nicodemus Cem, and Pine Grove Cem, indicating established community roots along the riverbanks.
