Kress stands at the northwestern edge of this High Plains landscape, where the local street grid including E Main St and Caldwell Ave meets the transit corridor of FM 87. The terrain is defined by a dense network of county roads and intermittent water features, most notably the seasonal drainage of Rock Draw which meanders through the northeast. This 2022 survey documents the agricultural divide along the Swisher Co and Hale Co boundary, illustrating a region shaped by large-scale farming and the infrastructure required to support it. To the south, the small settlement of Finney serves as another focal point along the primary north-south highway and rail route, surrounded by the characteristic playa lakes and section-line roads like Co Rd 15 and Co Rd 25 that organize the Texas Panhandle's rural geography.
