The high San Jacinto Mountains of Riverside County appear here in the mid-1950s, defined by the extensive boundaries of the San Bernardino National Forest and several distinct reservations. The landscape is characterized by a network of seasonal camps and specialized ranches, including the Mt Oak Boys Ranch, Twin Pines Ranch, and Trailfinders Camp near the shoreline of Lake Fulmor. A network of truck trails and firebreaks crisscross the steep terrain, connecting lookouts such as the Vista Grande Guard Station and Ranger Peak to the lower flats.
