Lake Winter and the surrounding forestlands of Sawyer County are defined by a complex network of glacial hydrology and recreational corridors. The Tuscobia State Trl cuts across the northern landscape, following a legacy path through the woods north of the lake. This waterway-rich terrain is fed by the Brunet River and the winding Thornapple River, which meander through wetlands and dense timber in the townships of T39N and T38N.
