Noxon Reservoir dominates the northern reaches of this landscape, its waters filling the Clark Fork valley below the settlement of Larchwood. The geography is defined by a dense network of drainages including Trout Creek, Tuscor Creek, and Jew Creek that carve through high summits like Beecher Peak and Eightmile Peak. This 2011 survey reveals a legacy of resource extraction, with multiple mining sites identified in the upland gulches. Genealogists and local historians can trace the positions of the Bennet Gulch Mine and White Penny Mine in the northeast, or the Ambassador/Lulu Mine further south near Woodchuck Peak. The infrastructure is primarily centered around forest service and maintenance routes, such as the Railroad Maintenance Rd and Marten Creek Rd, which provide access to the rugged interior and the Trout Creek Campground along the reservoir shore.
