The Temblor Range defines the eastern edge of this landscape along the border of Kern and San Luis Obispo counties. This arid upland region is characterized by a network of drainage systems and isolated water sources, including Antelope Spring, Walnut Spring, and Cottonwood Spring, which provided essential water in a demanding environment. The topography is deeply incised by Carneros Canyon and Cedar Canyon, reflecting the erosional patterns typical of this part of the California Coast Ranges.
