Latania Lake and the surrounding marshlands of Cameron Parish are defined by a complex network of natural bayous and engineered channels. The Intracoastal Waterway cuts a straight path across the wetlands, intersecting the winding courses of Bayou Lacassine and the Mermentau River. This coastal landscape is a mosaic of open water and low-lying landforms, where subtle elevations like Latania Hill and Onion Hill provide the only relief among expansive basins like Lake Misere and Mud Lake.
