Big Cliff Reservoir and the western edge of Detroit Lake dominate the northern landscape of this region along the border of Marion and Linn Counties. The terrain is characterized by significant elevations within the Willamette National Forest, reaching high points at Monument Peak and Slate Rock. A complex network of drainages, including Lawhead Creek, Kinney Cr, and Sevenmile Cr, feeds into the larger Santiam river system. These waterways are interspersed with geological landmarks such as the Palisades and Packers Gulch. Navigation through the forest is facilitated by Or 22 and numerous forest service routes like Nat For Dev Rd 2212 and Nat For Dev Rd 640. This map illustrates the vital role of water management and forest service infrastructure in the Oregon Cascades during the early 21st century.
