The Lay Dam infrastructure on the Coosa River anchors this landscape at the border of Chilton and Coosa Counties. The impoundment creates the broad waters of Lay Lake and Mitchell Lake, which dominate the eastern edge of the quadrangle. Inland from the river, the terrain is defined by a dense network of creek valleys and ridges, including the distinctive Gap of the Mountain and Chandler Mtn.

Smaller rural communities such as Jumbo and Lime Springs appear alongside numerous country burial grounds, providing valuable data for genealogical research. Locations like Mount Bethel Cem, Cane Creek Cem, and Macedonia Cem are scattered throughout the hills, connected by a web of county roads that follow the winding topography. The northern outskirts of Clanton are visible in the southwest, where the land begins to level near Pinedale Cem.
