About this map

Rock Creek and Mule Creek define the drainage of this Adams County landscape, where the Missouri River Basin development program focused its mid-century survey efforts. The topography is marked by a series of schoolhouses that tell the story of rural education and its eventual consolidation, including Valley Center School and the already defunct Range View School and Sunrise School. Evidence of earlier resource extraction is noted by the presence of Coal Mines in the northeast, while a lone Cem remains near the center of the sheet. The reliance on groundwater in this part of Colorado is clearly visible through the numerous Windmill sites and Well markings scattered across the terrain near Antelope Creek.
